Renewable energy is already transforming how agricultural businesses irrigate, cool, store and process food. Across Africa, dedicated productive-use solution providers are growing alongside a much broader group of agribusinesses that rely on these technologies as productive assets.

AgBase data suggests this is becoming a more important part of the investment landscape. Dedicated irrigation and cold-chain solutions accounted for less than 2% of African AgTech funding in 2023, rising to around 16% in 2024 and more than 25% in 2025. Yet that growth remains highly concentrated in a small number of companies, with relatively few businesses progressing into larger-scale commercial financing.

The challenge is therefore not simply creating more pipeline. It is building and coordinating the financing journey that enables productive-use solutions in agriculture and food systems to move from early validation through to commercialisation, wider adoption and scale.

Beyond Silos will bring together agriculture, energy, climate and development funders and investors, plus financial institutions to explore where gaps emerge across the financing journey, and how different actors can coordinate more effectively to address them.
